Infant Death At 301 37th Street, SE

At approximately 12:00 p.m. today Sixth District officers were called to 301 - 37th Street, S.E. for the report of an unconscious child. Upon arrival, they found 8-month-old Jeannetta McRae of the 37th Street address in an unresponsive state. Officers immediately initiated CPR until DCFD medics arrived. The child was transported to D.C. General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the child was placed in an infant tub that was placed in a regular tub occupied by another child. At some point, it appears that the infant tub flipped over causing the child's head to go beneath the water before being pulled from the tub by another sibling.

The cause and manner of death is pending a ruling by the Medical Examiner, but at this time the case is being investigated as an apparent accidental death.
