D.C. Police Apprehend P.G. County Murder Suspect

Shortly before 1:00 this afternoon, Officer Andre Martin of the Seventh District warrant squad apprehended a suspect wanted for murder in Prince George's County, Maryland. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Dimaris Smith, was arrested, without incident, after being found hiding in the basement of a residence located in the 2200 block of Shannon Place, SE.

The arrest came as the result of Officer Martin developing information as to the possible whereabouts of Smith, who was being sought by Prince George's County, Maryland police pursuant to an arrest warrant charging him with armed murder. On the morning of July 28, 2000, Smith allegedly stabbed Michael Wilson to death in the 4000 block of 38th Street in Brentwood, Maryland.

Dimaris Smith is being held in the District of Columbia as a fugitive from justice pending extradition to Prince George's County, Maryland.
