The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident that allegedly took place on Interstate 295. An 18-year-old male from Bladensburg, Maryland reported to police that on Thursday, April 29, 1999, he was operating his personal vehicle northbound on Interstate 295. At approximately 8:30 pm, as the driver approached the exit for Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE, it is reported that a white Crown Victoria occupied by four male suspects pulled up alongside his vehicle. At that time it is reported that shots were fired from the suspect's vehicle
into the victim's vehicle. As a result of that gunfire the 18-year-old driver received a superficial gunshot wound to the neck. Three other passengers, a 20-year-old male, a 16-year-old female and a 18-year-old female who were riding in the victim's vehicle were reported to be uninjured.
The victim in this case subsequently drove himself to his residence in Bladensburg where he was transported by ambulance to Prince George's General Hospital. The wounds incurred in this incident were not life-threatening and the victim was treated and released.
The name of the victim is being withheld due to the fact that he is a witness in this case. At this time the only description of the vehicle reported to have been involved in this shooting remains a Ford Crown Victoria, white in color, occupied by four black males.
The circumstances and the motives surrounding this incident remain under active investigation by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District .
