Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey will hold a news conference to discuss the investigation into the mishap at the Metropolitan Police Department's Lorton Range. Stray gunfire emanating from the range struck homes and vehicles in a nearby community on the afternoon of Monday, May 24, 1999.

Chief Ramsey immediately ordered the Lorton Range closed for shooting practice. He also directed that an investigation be conducted to determine how the mishap occurred.

Chief Ramsey will review the findings of the preliminary investigation and will discuss the matter.
