At approximately 4:45 pm on Friday, March 11, 2005, police were called to the 400 block of Mellon Street, SE, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival officers located 22-year-old Anthony Pitts, of the 400 block of Mellon Street, SE, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was subsequently transported to the Office of the DC Medical Examiner and pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, December 21, 2005, the above case was closed with the arrest of 20-year-old Floyd Ivory Young, III, of the 1300 block of Savannah Place, SE.  He has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed.
