At approximately 9:30 pm, on Saturday, April 22, 2006, Metropolitan Police mountain bike officers were escorting a group of about 30 demonstrators protesting against the policies of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group. While near the intersection of 20th and L Streets, NW, an officer observed one of the demonstrators attempting to conceal what appeared to be some type of club. Upon closer inspection, it was determined that the item was a 630-volt stun gun/cattle prod.
The protestor, identified as 26-year-old Jason K. Perkinson, of the 3000 block of Hartdale Road in Richmond, Virginia, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday, April 24.
