At approximately 6:09 am, on Thursday, April 27, 2006, Metropolitan Police were called to the front of 2024 10th Street, NW, for the report of a shooting.  Upon arrival they located a black male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the body. He was taken to the Howard University Hospital and pronounced dead.

The shooting is believed to have occurred in the rear of 2024 10th Street, NW, but the victim had apparently climbed a fence and actually collapsed behind a day care center in the rear of the 1000 block of V Street, NW. The victim is not an adult but has now been identified as 17-year-old Antonio J. Thrower of the 4500 block of 5th Street, NW.

A vehicle of interest was seen leaving the area following the shooting.  It is described as possibly being a Nissan or Honda product, silver in color, with Virginia tags JZG 5667.

The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
