At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2001, Fourth District officers were called to a parking lot alongside of 1309 Park Road, N.W. for the report of a stabbing. Upon their arrival they located 27-year-old Gabriel L. Spears, of the 1300 block of Park Road, N.W., suffering from a stab wound to the chest that he received during an altercation.

He was taken to the Howard University Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m.

Arrested and charged with Murder II While Armed in connection with the case was 16-year-old Douglas H. Carranza of the 600 block of Kennedy Street, N.W. He has been charged as an adult.
