At approximately 10:22 pm, on Friday, June 23, 2006, police were called to Delaware Avenue and K Street, SW, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival police located 28-year-old Steve Hairton, of the unit block of Galveston Street, SE, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to the Washington Hospital Center's MedSTAR Unit and pronounced dead at 4:31 am on Saturday, June 24, 2006.

The above case was closed on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, with the arrest of 22-year-old Demetrius Goddard of Temple Hills, Maryland. He was arrested by members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force. He has been charged with Murder I while Armed.
