Homicide in the 2800 Block of Gainesville Street, SE

At approximately 12:55 pm, on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, police were called to the 2800 block of Gainesville Street, SE, to investigate the trouble. Upon arrival police located 34-year-old Charles Lavaughn Smith, of the 5000 block of Nash Street, NE, suffering from apparent multiple stab wounds to the body. He was taken to the Howard University Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:45 pm.

The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
