Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2000, a woman was walking her car parked in a garage in the 600 block of Maryland Avenue, SW when she was approached by a lone male. The man forced her into a vehicle where he beat and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.

Investigators from the department's First District with the assistance of the United States Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) and the department;s Mobil Crime Unit conducted a three month investigation which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant charging First Degree Sexual Abuse.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. today, investigators from the First District and NCIS arrested an enlisted man with the United States Navy . He was arrested, without incident, at his place of employment at the Patuxent River Air Naval Station. He is identified as 27 year-old Thomas Michael Corbett of Crystal River, Florida. He will be presented before a magistrate in Saint Mary's County, Maryland , for an extradition hearing.
