At
approximately 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2001, Seventh District
officers were called to the 3800 block of 9th Street, S.E. for the report
of a shooting. Upon their arrival they located two men suffering from
gunshot wounds. One man who was suffering from gunshot wounds to the leg
and head was taken to an area hospital and admitted in stable condition.
His name is being withheld because he is considered a witness in this
case at this time. A second man, identified as 21-year-old John Thomas
Ellis of the 3700 block of 9th Street, S.E., was taken to Howard
University Hospital and pronounced dead at 12:48 a.m. on Sunday, April
29, 2001.
The case is under investigation by members of the department's Seventh

The department is currently offering a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR REWARD
to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction
of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the
District of Columbia.
