Police Shooting 6100 Block of Blair Road, NW

Shortly after 9:00 this morning 37-year-old Officer Lavane Olds, an 11-year-veteran with the Fourth District , was on patrol when she was advised by citizens that a man was walking around naked in the 6100 block of Blair Road, N.W. The officer called and asked for additional officers before approaching the man to determine his condition.

When the officer attempted to speak with the man he reportedly began to growl while walking toward the officer. The subject then reportedly lunged at the officer at which time she fired her service weapon striking the man in the chest and hand. The man continued toward the officer while she tried to back away. Responding officers twice utilized mace in an attempt to stop the subject with negative results. Officers eventually managed to tackle the subject to the ground.

The subject was taken to the Washington Hospital Center's MedStar Unit in critical condition. His identity is unknown at this time. He has been charged with Assault against a Police Officer (APO).

The case is currently under investigation by members of the department's Office of Professional Responsibility's Force Investigation Team and 4th District Investigation.
