Fatal Fire at 635 Edgewood Terrace, NE

At approximately 2:00 am this morning a fire broke out in an apartment building located at 635 Edgewood Terrace, NE. It appears the fire originated in an apartment on the seventh floor. The resident of that apartment, 66-year-old Jack J. Johnson, was taken to D.C. General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:00 am.

During the course of the fire, officers from the department entered the building and helped evacuate a number of senior citizens. Two officers were taken to the George Washington University Hospital where they were treated and released for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire does not appear suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation by the D.C. Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit.
