At approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2000, Seventh District officers were called to the 1800 block of Good Hope Road, SE for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival they discovered the body of 19-year-old Ronald Whitner, of the 1600 block of 18th Street, S.E., suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and body. He was taken to D.C. General Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:52 am.
