Sexual Assault Suspect Apprehended

Yesterday at 5:20 p.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth District arrested and charged a suspect wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into a series of four sexual assaults committed in the vicinity of Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street, NW and Georgia Avenue and Delafield Street, NW.

The assaults occurred between October 11, 1999 and February 17, 2000. In each case, a female victim accepted a ride from the operator of a late model maroon colored mini-van, was driven to a secluded area, and sexually assaulted before being thrown from the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Emmett F. Jones, of the 600 block of Princeton Place, NW, was being sought on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with First Degree Sexual Abuse in connection with one of the attacks. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in D.C. Superior Court.

Fourth District detectives are continuing to investigate the other three similar sexual assault cases, which at the present time remain open.

No further information is currently available.
