Yesterday
at 5:20 p.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth
District arrested and charged a suspect wanted in connection with
an ongoing investigation into a series of four sexual assaults committed
in the vicinity of Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street, NW and Georgia
Avenue and Delafield Street, NW.
The
assaults occurred between October 11, 1999 and February 17, 2000.
In each case, a female victim accepted a ride from the operator of
a late model maroon colored mini-van, was driven to a secluded area,
and sexually assaulted before being thrown from the vehicle.
The
suspect, identified as 38-year-old Emmett F. Jones, of the
600 block of Princeton Place, NW, was being sought on a D.C. Superior
Court arrest warrant charging him with First Degree Sexual Abuse
in connection with one of the attacks. He is scheduled to be arraigned
today in D.C. Superior Court.
Fourth
District detectives are continuing to investigate the other three
similar sexual assault cases, which at the present time remain open.
