Suspect Arrested in Homicide on Champlain Street, NW

At approximately 3:20 am, on Saturday, July 15, 2006, it appears that two groups of people became involved in an argument alongside 2201 Champlain Street, NW.  During the argument, 23-year-old David Cotis Murphy, of the 6900 block of G Street in Capitol Heights, Maryland, was stabbed multiple times to the body.  He was taken to the Washington Hospital Center's MedStar Unit and pronounced dead at 3:54 am.

A lookout was broadcast for a vehicle that fled the scene.  Police stopped the car a short time later and took 24-year-old Johnisha Knight, of the 400 block of 37th Street, SE, into custody.  She was charged with Felony Murder and is expected to be arraigned on Monday in DC Superior Court.
