Suspect Arrested in Connection with Multiple Shooting Incident at the National Zoo

At approximately 6:05 p.m., on Tuesday, April 25, members of the Metropolitan Police Department's Second District , assisted by members of the Fifth District’s Focused Mission Team, apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with yesterday’s multiple shooting incident at the National Zoo .

The suspect, a 16-year-old male juvenile, was arrested without incident when search and arrest warrants were served at a residence located in the 1200 block of Neal Street, NE. The suspect's identity is being withheld at this time because he is a juvenile. He was transported to the Second District for processing.

The suspect has been charged with Assault With Intent to Kill (AWIK). He is scheduled to be arraigned in D.C. Superior Court on Wednesday, April 26.

The shooting appears to be the result of an altercation between two groups of people who were visiting the National Zoo on Monday.

"I want to publicly commend all the members of the Metropolitan Police Department who worked so diligently to bring this case to a swift conclusion by successfully apprehending a suspect just 24 hours after this tragic and shocking incident took place," Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey said. The Chief also thanked the community for its assistance in providing critical information to investigators.
