The names of two hundred eighty police officers killed in the line duty, including 134 killed in 1999, will be engraved onto the marble walls at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Monday, May 1, 2000.
The engraving session is held prior to the annual Candlelight Vigil set for 8 pm, May 13, 2000 at the Memorial --where more than 10,000 family members, friends and comrades are expected to participate in ceremonies honoring the nation's fallen officers. The Memorial contains the names of nearly 15,000 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

What : Engravers to add new names of fallen officers to the Memorial. Chairman and executive director of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Craig Floyd, will provide opening remarks and will be available for interviews.
When: May 1, 2000 at 10 am. In case of rain, ceremony will be held Tuesday.
