Arrest Warrant Issued in Murder of Metro Transit Officer Marlon Morales

Today, members of the Metro Transit Police Department and Metropolitan Police Department announced the issuance of an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Walter Orlando Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The warrant charges Johnson with First Degree Murder While Armed in connection with the June 10, 2001, shooting death of Metro Transit Police Department Officer Marlon Morales.

The warrant was issued as a result of an ongoing joint investigation by members of the Metro Transit and Metropolitan Police Department.

Johnson is currently being held by Philadelphia authorities. He was arrested by Philadelphia police on June 14, 2001, as the result of a traffic stop. He was reportedly found to be in possession of the slain officer's handgun when stopped by Philadelphia police.

Police will work with the United States Attorney's Office here and in Philadelphia in an effort to seek the extradition of Johnson back to the District of Columbia.
