On
Saturday, June 23, 2001, at approximately 5:25 P.M., a pedestrian entered
the roadway in the 2300 block of Georgia Avenue, NW and attempted to climb
onto a moving tractor-trailer that was participating in the Caribbean
Day Festival parade. His attempt was unsuccessful and he fell onto the
roadway. Subsequently, he was struck by a set of the vehicle's tandem
wheels.
The pedestrian, who has been identified as 24-year-old Ronald Marshall
of Sterling Park, New York, was transported by ambulance to Howard University
Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
The accident is currently under investigation by members of the Metropolitan
Police Department's Major Crash Investigations Unit.
