On Thursday July 26, 2006, at approximately 1:30 pm, a female pedestrian was crossing eastbound in the 3300 block of 14th Street, NW, in an unmarked crosswalk. The pedestrian made it across to the center median, but as she stepped up onto the median, she fell backwards into the roadway. She was subsequently run over by a passing dump truck that was traveling southbound on 14th Street, NW.

Personnel from the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene and officially pronounced her dead at 3:26 pm.  Her identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of her next of kin.

There do not appear to be any contributing factors on the part of the driver.  The incident remains under investigation by members of the MPDC"s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
