On Sunday, July 30, 2006, at approximately 1:20 am, Metropolitan Police responded to the 1700 block of Benning Road, NE, to investigate the report of the sound of gunfire. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from apparent stab wounds to his chest lying in the rear of that location. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene, but could find no life signs.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old John Stapleton, III, of the 600 block of 14th Street, NE, was later transported by morgue wagon to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Police detectives closed this homicide case on August 14, 2006, with the arrest of 22-year-old Anthony Glennmont, of the 1900 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed.
