Crime Emergency Statistics, July 12-August 20, Released

On Tuesday, July 11, 2006, Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey announced a Crime Emergency due to an increase in violent crime. The Crime Emergency initiative was officially implemented on July 12, 2006.

 

Following are the statistics since the crime emergency was initiated, from July 12 through August 20, 2006; also included are statistics for the most recent week, August 14 through August 20, 2006:

Curfew Violations

On July 21, the DC Council passed the Enhanced Crime Prevention and Abatement Emergency Amendment Act of 2006, giving the Mayor the authority to set alternative curfew hours. Beginning July 31, 2006, and continuing through August 30, 2006, alternative curfew hours for young people 16 and younger will be set from 10 pm to 6 am, every night of the week.
