At approximately 11:45 pm, on Thursday, August 24, 2006, Metropolitan Police were called to the 4600 block of Benning Road, SE, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located 17-year-old Cynthia Gray, of the 600 block of 46th Street, SE, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the head. She was transported to the Prince George's Hospital Center and pronounced dead.
Police also located three additional victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. An 18-year-old male victim was found suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to both legs; a second 18-year-old male was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the back, and a 19-year-old female was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the right arm. The two male victims were transported to area hospitals and admitted in critical but stable condition. The female victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The names of the victims are being withheld because they are considered witnesses in this case.
The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
The department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
