This morning at about 1:00 am, police responded to the area of 5th and Butternut Streets, NW to investigate the report of the sound of gunfire. They canvassed the area and found nothing. However, at about 2:00 am, the Communications Division received a phone call from the receptionist at the Washington Adventist Hospital, reporting that a gunshot victim was there. Fourth District detectives responded to the hospital and located a witness.
Reportedly, the shooting victim, identified as 22-year-old Sean Dixon, of the 3800 block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE, and the witness exited a club shortly before the assault occurred. While they were in the 6800 block of 6th Street, NW, a masked gunman dressed in black approached them and announced a robbery. Sean Dixon was shot when he reportedly attempted to disarm the robber. The suspect then fled the scene without obtaining anything of value.
The witness flagged down a passing motorist, who transported the victim and the witness to the hospital. The witness, whose identity is being withheld, did not sustain any injuries. Sean Dixon was pronounced dead at 4:46 am.
