Office on African Affairs Announces Community Interpretation Grant

(Washington, DC) The Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (OAA) in partnership with the Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA) is pleased to announce that it has received $46, 500 in funding from the Office of Human Rights (OHR) to be awarded competitively to community-based organizations to provide community interpretation training for District government employees and community members. The purpose of this grant is to secure high quality training to support language minority communities in their efforts to receive adequate bilingual interpretation services. Such training is important to increase the capacity of District agencies and community-based organizations in order to assist Language English Proficient residents in the District of Columbia in accessing government services in Amharic. The grant will be available to eligible community based organizations serving African residents and merchants.
