New DC Attorney General (Nominated) Begins Her Tenure

Washington, DC - Attorney General (Nominated) Linda Singer begins her tenure today as the District's Attorney General. Ms. Singer, nominated by Mayor Adrian Fenty, says she will work to make the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) a top notch legal office, providing the highest quality legal services to the District and its residents.

"There is much to be done to protect our most vulnerable citizens. My aim is to make OAG a national leader in safeguarding consumers, protecting the environment, and ensuring decent and safe housing and neighborhoods," said Ms. Singer. "In order to do this, OAG must take a much more aggressive affirmative role in litigation and policy making-. That means we must attract the best and brightest to OAG."

Recruitment is only part of raising the quality of legal services at OAG. Ms. Singer will emphasize professional development and work closely with agency general counsel to improve performance and accountability throughout District government. She also will focus on engaging the talent and resources of the private bar to provide pro bono support to help OAG carry out its mission.

Prior to becoming Acting Attorney General, Ms. Singer was the Executive Director for Appleseed. Ms. Singer is a member of the New York Bar. Her application is pending for the District of Columbia Bar. Ms. Singer's nomination must be approved by the City Council. No date has been set for her confirmation hearing.
