Multistate Settlement Reached With Manufacturer of OxyContin

Under the settlement, Purdue Pharma:

  • Must not market or promote OxyContin for purposes beyond those approved by the FDA
  • Must require every recipient of funds or grants from the company to publicly disclose that fact whenever they make a presentation that references OxyContin
  • Must not sponsor any educational event where Purdue Pharma knows that a speaker will recommend the off-label use of OxyContin
  • Must not base Purdue Pharma salespeople’s bonuses solely on the volume of OxyContin prescribed
As part of the settlement, Purdue Pharma has agreed to pay the participating states a total of $19.5 million. The District, as one of the leaders of the multistate investigation, will receive a $949,500 share.
