Washington, DC - Attorney General Robert J. Spagnoletti announced today that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) will mark the observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 23-29, 2006.
A special week of events is held every April to honor victims of crime and those who advocate on their behalf. The theme for this year is “Victims’ Rights: Strength in Unity.”
In observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the OAG Victim Witness Assistance Unit (VWAU) will staff an information table on April 24th – 28th from 10 am to 4 pm in the Lobby of One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street, NW). Information will be provided to the public to increase awareness of the essential services provided by VWAU, as well as the work done by other local and national agencies.
The observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is not only essential to calling attention to the devastating effects of violence, but will also provide the necessary tools to reduce one’s chances of being victimized or re-victimized,” said General Spagnoletti. “I encourage anyone who is a victim of crime, or has a friend or loved one who has been victimized to speak to a Victim Witness Specialist in my office.”
