Spring 2010 Clean City Evaluations: Request for Volunteers

The Clean City Ratings are conducted quarterly to evaluate cleanliness levels of the city. The Office of the Clean City would like to request the support of resident volunteers who can help provide an objective rating of the cleanliness levels of streets and alleys throughout the District.

Cleanliness levels are evaluated on a scale of 1 to 4. Resident volunteers travel throughout the Wards in vehicles provided by DPW and make a visual evaluation of cleanliness levels. The evaluation results are used to determine how well we are doing in keeping streets and alleys clean and where we need to focus clean up efforts.

The quarterly Clean City Evaluations Spring 2010 Ratings will be recorded on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month of May 2010.

We would like to invite members of the community to participate in the ratings on a voluntary basis. The project is important as it provides the basis for DPW planning and sanitation efforts. Citizen volunteers are needed to ensure an objective evaluation.

Please provide the names and telephone numbers of any volunteers to Ronald Austin or call at (202) 340-8551 or(202) 727-8188; or Marlene Pheney or call at (202) 724-8967. Volunteers can also sign up online.

Volunteers will need to:

  • Report to the designated location promptly at 8:30 am on the day the Ward evaluations will take place.
  • Bring government issued identification for entrance into the building.
  • Be able to make a visual observation of sanitation conditions.
  • Be able to commit to five hours for this project.
  • Bring a lunch or snack items, if desired.

Volunteers may evaluate more than one Ward if they like.

District Government Agency staff supporting this project will provide additional instruction.
