The Office of the Clean City hosted a demonstration July 21, 2010 for city agencies, universities, Business Improvement Districts, and organizations of a solar-powered trash container known as BigBelly. The demonstration was well attended and considered a success. The purpose of the demonstration was to expose the aforementioned groups to a different clean&green solution. BigBelly representatives from the national and local affiliates were on hand to explain how the compactor works and the possible benefits for the city. Bill Del Vecchio from Georgetown Univertsity, the only District university to have 25 bigbellys on campus, spoke about the benefits and improvements the university has seen. The demonstration also received media attention from channel 16 and the Washington Examiner.
