CTO Vivek Kundra Announces the District Considered Best Practice Model in Leading Analyst Firm Case Study

(Washington, DC) Chief Technology Officer Vivek Kundra announced Gartner, Inc. has published the case study, "Washington, DC Portal Builds on Top of a Major IT Overhaul," based on the accomplishments of the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO).

"We are thrilled that after undergoing Gartner's case study process, we believe DC has emerged as a technology city to emulate," said Kundra. "Under Mayor Fenty’s leadership, OCTO will continue on this path to harness the power of technology as an education, empowerment and economic tool for the citizens of DC."

The District has been heralded for providing best practices information for other entities. The various programs profiled include the DC Unified Communications Center, a regional interoperable network, data feeds, business intelligence with geographic information systems and the multi award-winning portal DC.Gov.

"The work done by DC OCTO and the city IT [information technology] departments summarized in this case study was truly huge," commented Gartner Analyst Roy Schulte. "I believe the results and best practices described will assist other professionals attempting a large scale IT revitalization and portal."
