On Tuesday, September 26, 2006, Mayor Anthony Williams will host the District of Columbia Unified Communications Center (UCC) grand opening ceremony. Leading up to the grand opening, the project has been featured by multiple media outlets, including USA Today, Government Security News, Homeland Defense Week*, Emergency Management Magazine, Government Technology, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International, Inc. (APCO), ABC Channel 7 News, CBS Channel 9 Nightly News, and NBC Channel 4 News.
The event is by invitation only, and expected attendees of the grand opening event include federal, state and local government representatives, DC agency directors, directors of emergency preparedness from the offices of the Governor of Maryland and the Governor of Virginia, and high-ranking officials from the US Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, officials from Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the Emergency Management Agency of the District of Columbia and 17 collaborating jurisdictions throughout Virginia and Maryland will be in attendance.
