(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, in partnership with the DC Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization, will periodically publicize plans to award $500 million in contracts to general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and a variety of other vendors over the next three years.
The announcement is part of the District’s larger $3.5 billion 15-year school modernization plan, and represents a valuable procurement opportunity for Certified Business Enterprises.
Erik A. Moses, director of the Department of Small and Local Business Development says his agency “will work hard to ensure that DC certified businesses are not only made aware of these opportunities to compete for work on the schools, but that the school modernization program serves as a significant capacity building tool for certified businesses to increase their size, scope and scale.”
The Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization has committed to hiring District businesses and residents to build new school facilities; engage talented architects and engineers and develop design standards and best practices with the help of groups like the American Institute of Architects.
