(Washington, DC) – The District of Columbia agency that is focused on stimulating greenbacks in the local economy has also gone green.
In conjunction with Green DC Week and Earth Day, the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) announces its commitment to the environment. The agency recently fully outfitted its Judiciary Square headquarters with 40 recyclable work stations. DSLBD is one of the first District agencies to incorporate a comprehensive “green” footprint in its design and furniture selection.
In keeping with its mission of fostering the economic growth, development, and retention of District-based businesses, DSLBD employed District-based, certified contractor Configuration, Inc. to make the eco-friendly renovations.
“Configuration, Inc. is a great example of a small DC business leveraging the ‘green’ economy to promote its business,” said Erik A. Moses, agency director.
Moses emphasized that along with DSLBD’s recent, substantial programmatic growth came the need for physical growth. As the agency continues to expand its role as an advocate and economic resource for the District’s small and local business community, Moses said enlarging the existing office space in a sustainable, cost-efficient manner instead of incurring the cost of moving to a larger, leased space was an obvious choice.
“Configuration, Inc.’s services made it possible for us to simultaneously make an environmentally wise and financially prudent decision,” he said.
The facilities management company’s eco-friendly office design will enable DSLBD to reduce its overall environmental impact as well as to exemplify District-wide efforts to implement environmentally responsible policy and action.
