(Washington, DC) — Today marks the first of many ‘clean team’ services that will commence around the District in the coming months.
With today’s launch of public maintenance services on the Kennedy Street corridor that spans Georgia Avenue, NW to North Capitol Street, NW, the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) begins its implementation of a larger program of supplemental clean and safe services around the city that will complement existing District cleaning efforts and create healthy and vibrant commercial corridors.
The Kennedy Street Clean and Safe Team will provide daily litter and graffiti removal, tree box maintenance, debris transfer, and other maintenance services. In the coming weeks and months, DSLBD will be launching comparable ‘clean team’ service programs in order to help support the economic vitality of many commercial corridors in the city.
“We are very excited to begin implementing clean team services in targeted neighborhoods in the District, and look forward to advancing the commercial revitalization and further development of our neighborhood commercial districts,” said Nicole Becton, Interim Director of DSLBD.
Clean team services are part of DSLBD’s overall aim to improve neighborhood business districts in the city. The agency’s Commercial Revitalization Division works to bolster these commercial corridors in various ways, including by providing technical and funding assistance in targeted neighborhoods to retain DC businesses and design and improve storefronts and streetscapes.
