On April 7, 2009, the Council of the District of Columbia passed the “Small Business Streetscape Construction Real Property Tax Deferral Emergency and Temporary Acts of 2009,” which on an emergency (effective 90 days) and temporary (effective 225 days) basis, defers without penalty certain real property taxes owed to the District of Columbia by small commercial businesses, located within an active streetscape construction.
The affected areas include the corridor for the city blocks of H Street, NE between 3rd Street, NE and 15th Street, NE; all the city blocks of 7th Street, SE between North Carolina Avenue, SE and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE; and 12th Street, NE between Michigan Avenue, NE and Monroe Street, NE.
