(Washington, DC) - The commercial district in Brookland has recently completed a makeover, thanks to a grant funded by the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD).
With a total improvement budget of $87,000, the Brookland Storefront Improvement Program helped five Brookland businesses receive storefront improvement services that included a cluster of basic services, such as signage, awning, lighting, glass, paint touch-up, and interior security grate services.
More specifically, services consisted of the following:
- Pizza Boli’s: storefront glass, awning
- Brookland Grill: signage, lighting, paint, storefront glass, security grate
- Total Relaxation: signage, lighting, awning, paint
- Michigan Liquor: signage, lighting, security grate
- Menkiti Group: signage, lighting, awning
The project commenced in August 2008 and began with a design phase, in which participating businesses collaborated with DSLBD commercial revitalization specialists and improvement contractors to set design, renovation, and branding objectives. The subsequent storefront improvements convey branding and product/service pride through noticeable visual renovations. With quality products and services, the storefront improvements enhance the business image, which will help attract customers. They also contribute to an overall enhancement of Brookland’s commercial district image.
DSLBD engaged the Washington Community Investment Fund (WACIF) as grant fund manager to ensure expedited payment of improvement contractors.
