OPGS Offers Fundraising Training Series with Foundation Center

The Office of Partnerships and Grant Services, in partnership with the Foundation Center, will offer three different fundraising trainings to DC-based small nonprofits. The trainings are free, but advanced registration is required. Call (202) 727-8900 to register. All trainings will take place at One Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street, NW, Washington, DC. Before You Seek a Grant: A Checklist for New Nonprofits
June 4, 2009  10 am – 12 pm, Room 1114

This course is geared towards representatives of community groups without nonprofit status or new nonprofits with very little experience in grant seeking in general. We will focus specifically on foundation fundraising. The course will address such questions as:

  • What groundwork do I have to have in place before approaching foundations for funding?
  • What are the steps to obtaining incorporation and nonprofit status and where can I get some help to do so?
  • What are the characteristics of successful nonprofits?

This session will provide you with a step-by-step checklist approach to help you determine your own readiness for foundation fundraising.

Introduction to Fundraising Planning
June 18, 2009  10 am – 11:30 am, Room 1107

Introduction to Fundraising Planning will show you how to analyze your organization’s situation and develop a fundraising plan that will include a variety of revenue sources. A successful nonprofit organization needs to cultivate multiple revenue streams through sound financial planning. If your organization has never developed a fundraising plan or calendar, this session is for you. It provides an overview of the process of strategically thinking through the components of a fundraising plan. You'll learn how to:

  • Conduct an assets inventory.
  • Develop a case statement.
  • Identify fundraising partners.
  • Prepare a fundraising plan and calendar. 

Your Board and Fundraising
June 30, 2009  10 am – 12 pm , Room 1107

Find out the answers to the most frequently asked questions about getting your board involved with fundraising. The purpose of the class is to think systematically through the process of getting your board involved with fundraising. This process involves some key elements:

  • The role of your board.
  • Why board members may be reluctant to fundraise and how to overcome these concerns.
  • Ways the board can participate in the fundraising process.
  • Tips for strengthening your fundraising board.
