The DC Office of Property Management (OPM) is appealing to neighbors, history aficionados and others who collected and safeguarded pieces of the elaborate, historic cast-iron fence surrounding the Old Naval Hospital on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Capitol Hill, to kindly return these artifacts so they can be incorporated into the fence restoration.
“It is time to bring these pieces of history home so we can restore the fence to its former glory,” said Lars Etzkorn, OPM Director. “OPM salutes and is grateful to residents and others for preserving these pieces of history of the Old Naval Hospital.”
Anybody who has any of these pieces, or can help us find them, is respectfully asked to please contact Elena Rocha, OPM Project Manager, (202) 671-2804, for pickup. The Capitol Hill Restoration Society has also issued a fence retrieval appeal in its February newsletter.
The fence restoration is separate from the Request for Proposals that OPM has issued for the long-term lease of the property. The RFP is posted on the OPM website. The deadline for proposals has recently been extended from March 12 to March 26.
