The DC Office of Property Management (OPM) today invited public comment on two different types of window glass under consideration by OPM, the DC State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and other review bodies for the windows in the renovated Eastern Market. To give viewers an appropriate visual context, a mock-up of the windows has been set up in the North Hall of the Market, which will be open to the public March 15 - 16 and March 22 - 23, 9:30 am - 4 pm.
The mock-up is unobstructed by construction or scaffolding and is placed so it is exposed to substantial morning sun. It is also next to a typical existing window assembly. This existing assembly is glazed with the plastic (Lexan) material from the 1970’s and has turned cloudy because of the long-term exposure to sunlight. All existing windows are affected. Please select from the following link to view a detailed fact sheet on Eastern Market window glass.
