In a ceremony this morning at the District’s Police Academy, Robin-Eve Jasper, Acting Director of the District’s Office of Property Management and Chief Louis P. Cannon, head of OPM’s Protective Services Division (PSD) welcomed new officers to the ranks of PSD and presided at the promotion of current officers to higher rank. PSD is responsible for security and law enforcement at District-owned and leased properties.
The graduating class of 12 were sworn in by Chief Cannon, who also announced the promotions for 22 Officers. The officers were joined by a large group of friends and families who were not shy in showing the pride they had for the officers.
“Today’s graduates will play a vital role in protecting the District’s buildings, residents, guests and city officials,” said Director Jasper. “Any person entering a government building, whether it's the Mayor, a Councilmember, or a resident will most likely first encounter a PSD officer."
“This ceremony in the MPD Police Academy symbolizes what the new PSD will look like—professionally trained, professionally led and respected as police professionals,” added Chief Cannon. “We are prepared to move forward.”
Director Jasper also pointed out that PSD is also charged with ensuring the security at the District’s homeless shelters, a unique and often challenging assignment.
The Commander of the Metropolitan Police Academy, Inspector Victor Brito also addressed the assembly, noting the seamless level of cooperation that exists between PSD and MPD in making the District secure and safe.
