OPM Seeks Energy Conservation Manager

(Washington, DC) - The Office of Property Management (OPM) is pleased to announce the creation of a new position in OPM to promote energy conservation in District government buildings.  The Energy Conservation Manager (ECM) will oversee the District’s utility use in both owned and leased buildings, including proposing and implementing programs to reduce consumption through conservation and building retrofits, increase purchasing from renewable sources, cut utility costs and otherwise support green energy practices.

“The OPM Energy Conservation Manager will be key to meeting Mayor Adrian Fenty’s goal to make the DC Government and the city as green as possible,” said OPM Director Robin-Eve Jasper.  “The ECM will work to institute green energy practices in connection with facilities used by all DC agencies.”

The District consumes large amounts of energy, particularly to heat and cool buildings. The Manager will use short- and long-term forecasts for utility usage, oversee the EnergyCap program to monitor and reduce building energy consumption, review, analyze and apply information from public, private and academic sources to reduce costs and consumption and buy as much green energy as possible.

In addition, the ECM will coordinate OPM energy activities with DC Government, agencies such as the District Department of the Environment, and with other local and federal agencies.

Persons interested in the position, should apply through the DC Human Resources website under Employment Opportunities (Job Requisition: 12174) by November 17, 2008.
