OPM Police Chief Receives Man of the Year Award

The DC Chapter of the Police Emerald Society has named Louis P. Cannon Chief of the Protective Services Division of the District Office of Property Management (OPM), Man of the Year for 2008.  The award recognizes Chief Cannon for his core values of fair and impartial treatment for all people.

At the Society’s Annual Holiday and Awards Banquet on Saturday, December 13th, Society Vice-President Brian Manion lauded Chief Cannon “for always answering the call to duty [and placing] his personnel first along with his commitment to the law enforcement community and citizens above any personal goal of his own…throughout his career."

Chief Cannon began his long career with the Metropolitan Police Department as a patrol officer rising to Commander with the U.S. Mint Police and Chief of Police for the Office of Naval Intelligence. At the US Mint he transformed the force from a guard orientated operation into a full service law enforcement agency.

“In his relatively short tenure as the head of PSD, Chief Cannon worked with the MPD to bring a higher level of professionalism to PSD, to make our District Government buildings and personnel safer,” said OPM Director Robin-Eve Jasper.  “This award is timely recognition of his skills that will be an invaluable contribution to the unprecedented enforcement mobilization underway to ensure the smooth and safe inauguration of President Obama in our Nation’s Capital.”

In accepting the award Chief Cannon said: “While I am honored to be even considered, much less receive the award, I feel there are many more deserving.”  Further displaying his characteristic modesty, he added he remains “a cop, I just happen to wear stars now.”
