(Washington, DC) – Two protective services officers graduated from the police academy with distinction on August 14, 2009.
Officer Calvin Bevard was recognized for his achievement as the top firearms shooter and Officer Dwayne Redmond was elected class leader. Officer Redmond was also selected by his instructors and peers to call cadence when participating in physical fitness runs.
Both officers are members of the Protective Services Division (“PSD”) of the Department of Real Estate Services (“DRES”). PSD is responsible for managing and providing security and law enforcement at District owned and leased properties.
“Their achievement is a testament to the quality of our police force,” said Chief Louis P. Cannon. “PSD officers are among the best in the region.”
Officers Bevard and Redmond received 18 hours of college credit for attending the Public Safety and Security Institute, Prince George’s Municipal Police Academy. The course provided 749 hours of training in: firearms, emergency vehicle operations, criminal law, report writing, sensitivity, physical fitness, defensive tactics, traffic law, community policing, court testimony and procedures, arrest procedures, officers survival skills, ASP, OC, CPR first responder and taser certifications.
