(Washington, DC) – The DC Department of Real Estate Services (DRES) installed new security equipment at one of the District’s busiest government centers this week to reduce lines, improve efficiency and save taxpayer dollars.
Government employees will no longer be required to pass through magnetometers or x-ray machines at One Judiciary Square, located at 441 4th Street, NW. Turnstiles were installed for all government employees and contractors with District-issued ID cards. Visitors will still be required to go through the normal security checkpoints.
“The new security measures balance the level of security and amount of access,” said DRES Director Robin-Eve Jasper. “The District will continue to use state-of-the-art technology whenever possible to improve security and reduce costs.”
New security cameras were also installed to monitor potential incidents and count the number of employees entering the building. The data gathered from the cameras can be used as evidence or assist with emergency evacuation drills. The use of ID cards will also provide a more accurate attendance count to assist first responders.
“The District is improving efficiency and enhancing customer service at the same time,” said Protective Services Chief Louis P. Cannon. “Technology also requires fewer security personnel and saves thousands of dollars in contractual services.”
The Protective Services Division (PSD) is a division of DRES and provides security and law enforcement services at District facilities.
