(Washington, DC) The Office of the Secretary has extended the deadline the 2007 Cherry Blossom Poster Contest. Students in DC Public Schools are invited to submit posters on this year's theme: "Cherry Blossom: Saluting a World Class City, Communities and Friendship."
DUE DATE: March 9, 2007
ELIGIBILITY: Students in DC Public Schools, grades 1 – 12
GUIDELINES:
- Size 18 x 24 inches (Elementary Grades)
- Size 8 ½ x 11 inches or larger (Secondary Grades)
- No limitations on media; “anything” that best typifies theme, i.e. fabric, paste-on, glitter, markers, watercolor, oil, crayon, etc. may be used.
- Poster must be stiff or firm, not paper (for display purposes).
- Secondary Grades may use digital computer-generated art.
- Please include the theme on poster.
- Prepared lettering is accepted.
- Attach the following information to the back of each poster (use the entry form* provided and print information): student’s name, social security number, home address and telephone number, age, grade, school, principal’s name and art teacher’s name.
PRIZES:
- Winners in each category (categories determined according to grades that respond) will receive Certificates of Merit, US Savings Bonds, and other special prizes.
- All contestants will be given Certificates of Appreciation and an invitation via the school’s principal in order to attend the awards ceremony.
- Winning posters will be displayed at the opening ceremony of the National Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturday, March 31, 2007 and at the Southwest Airlines’ terminal in Baltimore, MD for at least two weeks.
JUDGING:
- Entries will be judged on creativity and originality.
- Judges will be composed of those involved in DC’s arts community.
- Judges reserve the right not to award all prizes.
- All artwork will be returned to the DCPS, Art Department.
- Judges' decisions will be final.
