(Washington, DC) The Secretary of the District of Columbia is pleased to announce that activities surrounding Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 21, 2008, will focus on a citywide day of community service. The Office of the Secretary is partnering with Serve DC to coordinate over 100 projects across the city.
Rather than using Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a vacation from work or school, Mayor Fenty asks all residents to celebrate Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into citizen action. On MLK Day 2007 over 10,000 District volunteers participated in 80 different community service projects, and the 2008 King Day of Service will be bigger and better than ever.
