District Tax Office to Extend Service Hours to Help Residents Meet Their Tax Obligations
Free District Tax Return Preparation Available

(Washington, DC) The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) announced today that its customer service centers will have extended hours next month to assist taxpayers as the filing season deadline approaches.

OTR’s walk-in service center, located on the 1st floor of 941 North Capitol Street, NE, will offer extended hours April 2 through April 17, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 am to 8 pm. Customer service specialists will be available to prepare District individual income tax returns at no cost for anyone requesting this service. Taxpayers must bring a copy of their completed federal tax return, supporting W-2 forms and schedules, and a valid driver’s license or state identification. Taxpayers should also expect a short wait time when having their return prepared.

“This service is available to everyone – regardless of income,” said Sherryl Hobbs Newman, deputy chief financial officer for tax and revenue. “It is important that we provide taxpayers several avenues to meet their tax obligations.”

Extended telephone service hours will also be available April 2 through April 17, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 am to 8 pm by calling (202) 727-4TAX (4829).

District taxpayers are reminded that they have until April 17 to file their individual income tax returns or pay any taxes due for this year. The April 15 deadline falls on a Sunday this year, and April 16 is a legal holiday in the District – Emancipation Day; therefore, the filing deadline is extended to Tuesday, April 17.
